Click Tracking

Every time someone clicks a ULink, data is captured. Understanding how click tracking works helps you make sense of your analytics and optimize your campaigns.

What you'll learn

  • How ULink tracks clicks across platforms
  • Understanding geographic and device breakdowns
  • Real-time vs aggregated click data

How clicks are tracked

When a user clicks a ULink:

  1. Request received — ULink server receives the click
  2. Data captured — Device, location, timestamp logged
  3. User redirected — Sent to destination (app or fallback)
  4. Analytics updated — Data appears in dashboard

All this happens in milliseconds — users don't notice any delay.

Key Concept

Click tracking is passive and automatic. You don't need to add any code or configuration. Every ULink click is tracked by default.

What data is captured

For every click

Data pointExample
Timestamp2024-03-15 14:32:07 UTC
Link IDsummer-sale
IP addressAnonymized for privacy
User agentDevice and browser info
ReferrerWhere the click came from

Derived from user agent

Data pointExample
Device typeMobile
Operating systemiOS 17.2
BrowserSafari
Device modeliPhone 15

Derived from IP

Data pointExample
CountryUnited States
RegionCalifornia
CitySan Francisco
Gotcha

IP-based location is approximate (typically city-level accuracy). Don't rely on it for precise targeting — use it for general geographic trends.

Click counts

ULink counts every click on your links. This gives you a clear picture of engagement volume:

  • How many times was this link clicked today?
  • Which links get the most traffic?
  • How does click volume change over time?
Marketing campaigns: Watch click volume after launching campaigns to gauge immediate interest and reach.

Traffic sources

ULink captures where clicks originate:

Direct traffic

User clicked link directly (email client, SMS, etc.)

  • No referrer available
  • Common for private channels

Social media

Clicked from social platform

  • Referrer: facebook.com, twitter.com, etc.
  • Platform-specific data available

Web referral

Clicked from another website

  • Full referrer URL captured
  • Useful for partnership tracking

In-app browsers

Clicked within another app

  • Often shows as app's browser
  • May have limited referrer data

Real-time tracking

The dashboard shows live clicks as they happen:

14:32:07 summer-sale iOS San Francisco
14:32:09 product-123 Android New York
14:32:11 summer-sale iOS London

Use real-time tracking to:

  • Monitor campaign launches
  • Verify links are working
  • Spot sudden traffic spikes

Click trends

Analyze patterns over time:

Time of day

When do users engage most?

  • Schedule posts for peak times
  • Plan campaign launches strategically

Day of week

Weekday vs. weekend patterns?

  • B2B links often perform better weekdays
  • Consumer links may spike weekends

Seasonality

Monthly or yearly patterns?

  • Holiday campaigns
  • Industry-specific cycles

Using click data effectively

Click data is most valuable when you connect it to outcomes:

  • Compare links: Which links drive more engagement?
  • Spot patterns: When do your users click most?
  • Understand audience: Where are your users located? What devices do they use?
Key Concept

Clicks tell you who's interested. Combine with your app analytics to see what they do next—purchases, signups, engagement.

Filtering and segmentation

Slice your data by:

  • Date range: Last 24h, 7d, 30d, custom
  • Link: Individual or groups
  • Platform: iOS, Android, desktop
  • Location: Country, region, city
  • Source: Referrer domain or channel

Quick recap

  • ULink automatically tracks every click with device and location data
  • See real-time clicks as they happen in your dashboard
  • Analyze patterns by time, device, location, and referrer
  • Combine click data with your app analytics for full insights
